Sunday evening was high on fashion as Archana Kochhar marked her debut into menswear. She gave a sneak preview of her first men’s line ‘Barcode – the Resort Collection’ at her designer store in Juhu. The collection is set to scorch the ramp at the upcoming Kingfisher Ultra Kochi International Fashion Week (Kingfisher Ultra KIFW), scheduled to be held from April 07 – 10, 2012.

‘Barcode’ is a summer collection inspired by the stripes and checks of the barcode, and it lavishly celebrates ivory and ebony in its linear best. The look is kept very relaxed and casual, with shirts left unbuttoned and collar standing high, sleeves rolled, teamed up with cropped pants and beach shorts. Bold black and ethereal white gets a splash of bright electric neon to create a sense of peppy fun that provides a lively alternative to crisp and sleek styling. This German painter can’t speak English or Hindi. But India’s kaleidoscope of colours has magnetically drawn her into its art cape. And Andrea Klosowski is in India with her exhibition titled ‘Incredible India’, at Kamal Nayan Bajaj Art Gallery from April 2 to 7.

She works as a painter in her studio in the Kortumstrassse 150, vis a vis the Museum Bochum.

It begins with a white canvas ......... large they should be powerful, the available colors and extensive selection of different materials. Set do not have to allow spontaneous thoughts and ideas, give them space and only very limited control, which is the process of painting, for which Andrea Klosowski always decide again intuitive.

The journey of the mind has its beginning, trying to do there, where are condensed to form mental images, surfaces, structures. They formulate a relationship to each other or can be combined do not have to be discarded. Resulting color fields are again scraped in order to reformat, cracks and fissures, leaving traces that communicate at once a meaning and point the way to go as it can .....

Lamu is a place like no other, a peaceful tropical island where life is lived at its own relaxed rhythm, but a place whose history is as mysterious and fascinating as the winding streets of it's own medieval stone town. Just off the coast of Kenya is a small cultural island called Lamu. As Kenya's oldest still inhabited town, Lamu has a rich and colourful history with a local community who are proud of their traditions. Lamu Island, undoubtedly one of the top holiday destinations has retained all the charm and character built up over centuries. Since 2001 Lamu Old Town, has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

It has managed to stay unspoilt and untouched by the mass tourism and development that has hit much of Kenya's coastline. As Kenya's oldest living town, Lamu has retained all the charm and character built up over centuries. Most houses have a rooftop which is used as a patio - indicative of a society where 'hanging back' and 'catching the breeze' is important. Visitors to the island can stay in one of these Swahili style Lamu villas where sandy-toed days stretch out into tropical rooftop evenings. There is just one car on the island and it belongs to the mayor so donkeys are the main form of transport as well as dhows and speedboats. Flying is the best way to reach this region of Kenya and there are daily flights to Lamu. The airport is located on the neighbouring Manda Island from where you will be collected by your hotel or lodge and transferred by boat across the channel to Lamu town (10 minutes), Shela Village (20 minutes) or further afield (up to 45 minutes).

Along Kenya's beaches you can expect to see traditional dhows sailing across shimmering waters, towns dotting the coastline featuring intricately carved doorways studded with brass, and white walls draped with bougainvillea. The fusion of Arabic and African culture combined with superb palm-lined beaches and azure blue ocean waters will entice any visitor to linger longer, especially when staying on Lamu Island. The Kenya coast and Lamu are the perfect destinations for a beach honeymoon.


There are many old mosques (not all will allow Westerners to visit) and Arab houses with beautiful handcarved mahogany and cedar doors. There's so much to look at in the town itself, including the Hindu Temple in Mwagogo Road that it might be hard to tear yourself away. But if you can bear to leave, take a dhow cruise to visit the 14th-century ruins on the Pate and Manda islands.


Lamu has also become a hot destination for global glitterati: Princess Caroline of Monaco has a house here along with any number of other notables. But nothing and nobody can destroy the ambience of this lovely little town. Small boys with backs against ancient walls chant verses from the Koran, light-sounding drums beat, a flute plays, donkeys bray, a muezzin calls from a stone tower atop a small mosque, palm trees wave in the soft sea breezes, and a white-sailed dhow sails past on the bluest of seas.


Take a walking tour of Lamu old town and visit the Museum and Old Fort in Lamu town which have been nicely restored and have some fascinating displays. Go shopping for beautiful clothes, kanga's and kikoys, leather work, carved wooden furniture, and silver jewellery.


Taking a Dhow Trip is almost obligatory and drifting through the mangroves is a wonderful way to experience the islands. You'll be approached by touts and would-be captains almost as soon as you arrive, but it's worth shopping around to find a captain you like and a price you're happy with. Prices vary depending on where you want to go and how long you go for. Most day trips meander around the channel between Lamu and Manda Islands, and the price includes fishing and snorkeling.
